News Up-date: Climax to the League Season

The 2009/10 season’s rapidly coming to its conclusion, and the E.C.C.S. has once again maintained a very strong showing. We are now confirmed as the “regular season” League table toppers, and go into the semi finals, (set for Sunday May 2nd) in bullish mood. It’s looking likely that we’ll be playing the Indian Cricket Club of Saigon, but with 2 weeks of the regular season remaining this can still change.

Regardless of our opponents however, the team’s confident of victory and a place in the Grand Final, a situation that reflects very well the efforts that our Captain, Mr. Simon Shaw, and all the team have gone to over the past 7 months or so.

In addition to this, there are several other events taking place over the final month of the season:

• The 2010 E.C.C.S. Grand Tour takes place from April 21st to 25th, with Phuket as this year’s destination. 25 members are heading there to play or spectate and no doubt the organising committee has come-up with a few additional activities to fill the itinerary. Look out for photos that we’ll post on this site in the days following our return.

• The Vietnam Cricket Association (VCA) End-of-Season Review will take place on Friday May 21st, 2 weeks after the Grand Final. Awards will be given out to the best performers in the League, and the E.C.C.S. will no doubt provide a few of the winners, reflecting another great season for the Club. Venue and final details will be confirmed in the coming weeks, and all Club members are encouraged to attend what should be a great evening.

• Finally, the social event of the year that is the E.C.C.S. End-of-Season Spectacular will take place at a venue to be decided on the evening of Friday June 4th. The usual awards will be handed out, some serious, others less-so, and another good turn-out will be hoped for. More details will be provided over the next fortnight, so stay-tuned for more info on what is invariably a great night for the Club.

The New Season
October 2009 – R. Carrington

The New cricket season begins in HCMC this month, and the E.C.C.S. are preparing for this in a number of ways:

•  The season-opening social event will take place at Cepage Bar (Le Thanh Ton St, D1), on Friday 16th October. It’s the perfect event to attend if you want to find out more about who we are, what we can provide members, and meet those that make-up the membership of the Club. Food and drinks will be served during the Event which runs from 6:30pm – 9:30pm, so please feel free to come along if you want to find out more.

• Practice sessions at RMIT University in Phu My Hung will re-commence on Saturday 17th October from 10:30 – 12:30. Organised weekly, they provide the perfect intro for those that are either new to the game, or (like most of us), haven’t bowled a ball or swung a bat in anger for some time, (i.e. YEARS!!).

• The Season proper then begins on Sunday October 25th at RMIT, with last season’s finalists England and Australia duelling for early-season bragging rights. This site provides a full schedule for the season ahead, so if you want to come along and see what’s going on then feel free to visit RMIT. Games occur most Sunday mornings from 8:30 – 1pm.
